Al-Sistani Expresses Supports Resolving Unlicensed Weapon Problem

Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, announced on Sunday that the supreme authority in Najaf, represented by Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, supports holding early elections as scheduled in the middle of next year.

In a press conference she held today after a meeting with Al-Sistani, she said that she discussed with the latter three issues, including the elections, extending the prestige of the state, resolving the problem of fugitive weapon, and opening the large corruption files in the country to hold the corrupt accountable”.

she added, “Al-Sistani calls for holding the elections as scheduled, and demands the government to open files of corruption”, adding, “the elections should be held under these conditions. Otherwise, the country may be in a dangerous situation”.
