The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani, expressed the region’s desire to develop its relations with Russia in all fields.

A statement issued by the Kurdistan Region Presidency stated that Barzani received today, Wednesday, Mikhail Bogdanov, representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, the Russian ambassador in Baghdad, Maxim Maksimov, the Russian consul general in Erbil, and Olek Levin, and an accompanying delegation that included a number of diplomats and officials of the Russian Gazprom company “.

During the meeting, Barzani expressed the desire of the Kurdistan region to develop its relations with Russia in all fields, praising the actions and activities of the Russian Gazprom company in the energy sector in the region.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed, according to the statement, the situation in Iraq and stressed the importance of seeking to calm tensions and unrest in the region and not to turn Iraq into an arena for disputes and conflicts of regional and international powers, and highlighted the demonstrations and efforts to choose the next Iraqi prime minister, the problems of Erbil – Baghdad and the importance of coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army in the disputed areas.
