The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, met in the Italian capital, Rome, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, and affirmed Iraq’s keenness to establish balanced relations based on submitting supreme national interests away from dictates and imposing wills.
A presidential statement said, during the meeting, regional and international conditions and crises in the region were discussed, as well as the dimensions of the Iraqi parliament’s decision to end the presence of foreign forces in the country, and the importance of supporting Iraq’s stability and respecting its sovereignty and its independent decision.
The President of the Republic affirmed Iraq’s keenness to establish balanced relations based on priority of the supreme national interests away from imposing wills, and respecting sovereignty and stability in accordance with its common interests with neighboring countries, friends and international partners, noting: “Achieving security and stability in Iraq is a critical step to eliminate extremism and conflict that may harm us all. ”
The president pointed to the necessity of enhancing bilateral relations and expanding horizons of cooperation to serve the interests of both countries, praising Italy’s positive role in supporting Iraq in various fields.
The Italian Prime Minister stressed his country’s keenness to support the sovereignty and stability of Iraq, stressing the need to redouble international efforts to achieve peace and prevent tension in the region, pointing to the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation in the war on terrorism and preventing the return of its threat to the peoples of the region and the world again.
The President of the Republic had arrived in Italy today after concluding his participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos.
