According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Florentino Perez dedicated Real Madrid’s Champions League victory to the 16 supporters who lost their lives in a recent terror attack in Iraq.
The members of a Real supporters’ club were killed by ISIL militants in the town of Balad, near the city of Samarra, two weeks before the final in Milan on Saturday night.
The newspaper added that Real President Perez said afterwards: ‘I want to dedicate this victory to the Iraq fans. This was a terrible act on people that do more than support Real Madrid.’
Armed with AK-47s, three terrorists stormed a cafe where the Real fans had gathered to watch videos of old matches. Firing indiscriminately, they left bodies strewn across the floor.
The Spanish club condemned the atrocity at the time in a statement. It read: ‘Real Madrid profoundly laments the terrible attack today in Iraq which has ended the life of 16 members of a Madrid fan club and that injured more than 20.
